Reuben Colley art gallery

Postby editorialgirl » Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:54 pm

I'm hearing rumours that the ex-Encore shop on St Mary's Row is to become a "Reuben Colley art gallery". I also heard it was to be a combined barbershop and art gallery. Not sure which bits of these rumours are true or how permanent it will be if it happens.

As David mentioned on the BM&AG thread, Reuben Colley was one of the artists whose work was shown as part of the Birmingham Seen exhibition. Here's his website: http://www.reubencolley.com/

This is his "New Street Rain - 2007 (oil on canvas)"

I saw what looks like one of Barbara Walker's big portraits when I walked past yesterday.
You might recognise her work from the B Seen show - she did the very large barbershop portrait.

There is a sign up that says Reuben Colley so there could be some substance to this.

There's also loads of pictures.

I'm not sure about the barbers shop part. It is a separate shop and when I tried to get my hair cut they offered me an appointment.

I'm a man. I don't make appointments. My hair gets cut on little more than a whim. It's not something that goes in a diary.

Needless to say I took my custom elsewhere.

I'm not sure this new, edgy Impressionism is going to catch on.
