King's Heath Faction

Wassup?

Andy Howell and I popped into The Station for a research visit about 1 o' clock yesterday afternoon following a heavy 3 hour session of leafletting , and it looks like the new landlords are really putting in a superb effort to create a quality local pub.

The decor's a bit odd, with flock wallpaper and chandeliers of all things, but it's bright and clean and cheerful. Best of all is the beer. Had 2 pints of an ale called Old Wemian, which was absolutely delicious. There's plenty more real ales on offer too. You can get a cuppa coffee and there seems to be a reasonable sort of food offer there too - basic stuff like sausages and pies and so on, but could well be nice. Staff are friendly and eager to please. Very, very promising, and knocks spots off the Prince of Wales (which I gave up on a few years ago anyway). Recommended.

Agree about the decor - very quaint. Didn't have the Old Wemian on so had a couple of Black Sheep. We then went across to the Bella Venizia - always thought it was an Al Capone pizza place for some reason, but it's a proper restaurant, and not bad. By the way, karaoke at the Windermere Ex-servicemen club once a month.

I walked past there yesterday and was a little surprised.

It did used to be a normal pizza takeaway thing but does seem to have turned into a proper little ristorante.

Does it do a range of food?

yep, the usual suspects, including lots of fish and fillet steaks, etc and it's licensed.

I've been. I like it! :D

Referring to The Station, by the way.

We went to Bella Venezia last night. It was all right!

The food was cheap and cheerful; everything comes with fries - no vegetable or salad choices - but at £10.95 for two courses, that's okay. I asked for my steak to be "medium rare" and it came very well done  but it was still tasty and very tender in a nice peppercorn sauce.

The decor and music were weird enough to make us laugh but not at all intrusive. And the service was very good (but you'd hope so, since we were the only people in there for the WHOLE EVENING).
