K2

Daz and I noticed yesterday that the windows of K2 were all whited out. Anyone know if it's closing or being refurbished? (We presumed the latter - it's survived this long. And it hasn't had a refurb since about, I dunno... since it opened, by the look of it.)

It has had a re-furb since it opened - in 2002. in fact. It used to be a sort of local steak-house sort of place - hence the logs.

I'd guess it's closed for a re-furb. It's not been showing any sign of business tailing off lately. Might be for a re-furb of the kitchen since BCC marked it down as needing hygiene improvements.

It'll take a long time for them to scrub the smell of all that Jazz away.

it's closed for 10 days for a refurb. My wife, a regular at the establishment, was given a sneak preview of the facelift.

Ooh, tell us more. Is it going all trendy a la Piquant?

Not that I'm expecting them to add a bunch of cream 'n' chrome architectural "features" within ten days, mind.

By the time I can ask Mrs W for details and post back to you the place should be finished! I can't imagine finding limestone tiles and a bidet in the upstairs loo though.

No, removing the pigeons would be step in the right direction.

Bad news, Simon. Took a peek in yesterday at the place and it looks almost finished. Part of the re-furb includes new window etchings that proclaim "K2 Indian Restaurant & Jazz Bar".

Which is a bit puzzling, because it's never been a "bar" at all, and still isn't - it's a restaurant. And it has always played jazz music, so that's nowt new, either.

I like the idea of a written commitment to jazz.

I admire the honesty.

But it isn't very improvised, is it?
